to hear charges against a Jew:  ¿oír acusaciones contra un judío?    No tiene sentido esta traducción.   To hear charges se podría traducir como alegar/presentar cargos o acusaciones contra alguien..

Lo que se hace es presentar los cargos ante el juez en presencia del acusado. Es el juez quien "oye" los cargos.

(1415.6) ^128:6.6 Jesús trató de conseguir una audiencia inmediata para Judá, o bien que lo liberaran a tiempo para poder celebrar la Pascua aquella noche, pero fracasó en sus esfuerzos. Puesto que el día siguiente era un día de «santa asamblea» en Jerusalén, ni siquiera los romanos se atrevían a oír acusaciones contra un judío. En consecuencia, Judá continuó encarcelado hasta la mañana del segundo día después de su arresto, y Jesús permaneció con él en la prisión. Accordingly, Jude remained in confinement until the morning of the second day after his arrest, and Jesus stayed at the prison with him. Jude did not pass through this formal ceremony for several years, until he was next in Jerusalem at a Passover and in connection with his propaganda work in behalf of the Zealots, the patriotic organization to which he belonged and in which he was very active.
